The industrial Internet transforms the way people and machines interact using data and analytics in new ways to drive efficiency gains, accelerate productivity and achieve overall operational excellence. Ultimately, the industrial Internet enables combining brilliant machines with best-in-class analytics to deliver valuable new insights that were never before possible. The results of these powerful analytic insights can be revolutionary for business by transforming technological infrastructures, reducing unplanned downtime and maximizing profitability and efficiency.
GE believes the industrial Internet unlocks new possibilities and drives transformation by connecting brilliant machines, advanced analytics and people at work. By connecting machines and industrial big data, the industrial Internet enables better understanding of industrial operations and enables driving them to their fullest potential based on key parameters such as market demand, weather conditions, plant environment, load balancing, and other business objectives.
The industrial Internet can lead businesses to a new wave of productivity gains and performance. Networked machines with embedded sensors and advanced analytics tools allow these businesses to leverage data in context to predictions and provide real-time operational intelligence to those who need it to make the best decisions. Solutions powered by the industrial Internet can help monitor processes and control loops so if a process becomes inefficient, operators can quickly identify what has changed and why. Getting to the root cause of the issue provides better insight into process and control problems to minimize deviations that stray outside of preset parameters.
GE’s business is making the industrial Internet real, helping customers connect their machines, data, insights and people to improve performance, uptime and productivity. In collaboration with GE, FogHorn provides an edge intelligence platform that integrates many different heterogeneous edge applications to support widely distributed industrial networks. FogHorn is an integral part of the GE Predix ecosystem and was featured at the 2015 GE Minds + Machines conference.
